Cecily has practiced as a solicitor
for the past six years. During this time she has undertaken
significant advocacy work principally but not
exclusively in the criminal law jurisdiction. Her experience
in the past
four years includes two years spent as an in-house advocate
at the Office of Public Prosecutions followed by a further
two years as a duty lawyer at
Victoria Legal Aid and a Senior Associate at Paul Vale, Criminal
Lawyers.
Cecily has regularly appeared and instructed
in the Magistrates', Children's, Family, County, Supreme and
Coroners' Courts in a wide range of matters as well as acquiring
a broad experience in case preparation and analysis, forensic
research and client advice.
Cecily completed her articled clerkship
at Phillips Fox Lawyers followed by
twelve months as solicitor in the firm's trade practice and
energy law sections. Cecily also worked as a solicitor in
Minter Ellison Lawyers'
commercial dispute resolution team followed by a further year
in para-legal positions with various London firms whilst travelling.
She has also
undertaken a number of pro bono roles including working with
Julian Burnside QC in assisting detainees applying for refugee
visas, the Coburg Community Centre as well as contributing
to the Inquest into Deaths in Private Prisons.
Cecily is currently completing her
Master of Laws post-graduate degree at Melbourne University
and has written and had published articles on the Trade Practices
Act.
