Peter has a broad criminal and administrative law practice.
He appears regularly in criminal proceedings in all jurisdictions at both first instance and appellate level.
He has expertise in:
- corporate and regulatory investigations and prosecutions having appeared in a number of complex white collar crime cases;
- advising local councils, government departments and statutory bodies regarding their regulatory activities and prosecutions;
- appearing for examinees in compulsory examinations;
- prosecutions under the Occupational Health and Safety Act;
- Confiscation Act matters;
- driving matters;
- coronial inquests.
He has a particular interest in tribunal and disciplinary hearings and has been engaged to advise one professional peak body as to how to improve its complaint and disciplinary processes.
His practice in administrative law extends to both judicial and merits review. He appears in the Supreme Court in judicial review proceedings.
Prior to coming to the Bar he worked as:
- a solicitor advocate at Victoria Legal Aid;
- a legal policy officer in the Department of Justice;
- an associate in the Commonwealth Administrative Appeals Tribunal and in the County Court;
- a legal researcher in the County Court principally working on the first edition of the Victorian Trial Manual.
