Peter Pickering

In 1990, Peter was articled to
Nevett Ford Lawyers in Ballarat before returning to Melbourne
in 1991. He continued as a solicitor with Nevett Ford's Melbourne
office, primarily in the areas of insurance and general civil
litigation.
Peter came to the Bar in 1993. His initial practice was in
crime, but also regularly appeared in Magistrates Court civil
litigation.
Since then, Peter's practice has primarily focussed on a
wide range of civil litigation, appearing in trials and hearings
in the state civil jurisdictions including the Supreme, County
and Magistrates Courts and VCAT, as well as the Federal Court
of Australia. These matters have ranged from bank guarantee
cases to insurance claims, contract disputes to insolvency.
He also regularly prosecutes criminal matters in the County
and Magistrates Courts.
From 1992 to 2006, Peter was a weekly volunteer at the Western
Suburbs Legal Service in Newport. In addition to legal advice
for clients, he also regularly lectured students on civil
and criminal procedure.
