Ruth Shann

Ruth has appeared as sole counsel for the defence:
- in the Supreme Court of Appeal on appeals against conviction
and sentence;
- in the County Court as trial counsel; on indictable pleas;
County Court appeals; confiscation hearings; and bail applications;
- in the Magistrates' Court in committals, contests and
bail applications as well as summary matters.
Ruth has also appeared as junior counsel in high profile
murder, police corruption and drug matters in the Supreme
Court, County Court and at committal level.
Ruth has drafted legal submissions for the Supreme Court
of Appeal, Supreme Court and County Court as both sole and
junior counsel.
Ruth has also:
- lectured in Criminal Law; Federal Criminal Law; and Evidence
at a private university for three years;
- achieved third place on the first class honours list in
law at the University of Melbourne;
- commenced a Masters of Law in 2007 specialising in criminal
law and human rights.
